Safeway, Salad & Smiles

On Friday, Team 24 traveled to our local Safeway store. We browsed the produce section, identifying fruits and vegetables, those familiar to us and those that weren't. After identifying the names of the vegetables, we discussed what part of the plant it came from and how we knew. Students were each captured with a vegetable and later wrote about their vegetable in a non-fictions piece of writing.

We loaded our shopping cart with salad fixings and then searched the aisles for a few more essentials: croutons, ranch dressing and bacon bits! A HUGE thank you to Safeway for generously covering the cost of our purchases!

It took a couple of hours and the love of our amazing EA Mrs. McWilliams, but our salad bar was ready and STUNNING! Students made the rounds. Starting with 3 types of lettuce, they added their fixings and made a delicious treat. Toppings included: cauliflower, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, purple cabbage, celery, radishes, red and green peppers, cucumbers, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, bacon bits, croutons and three choices of dressing! I was so happy to see students dig in and even come back for seconds! PROOF- They CAN eat their veggies!

It was an AMAZING and BUSY day! A field trip, preparing and devouring a salad bar and making popcorn and setting up for Team 24s Family Movie Night! Whew! We crammed it all it! Congrats Team 24!

An ENORMOUS thank you to Mr. McFarlane and Mrs. McWilliams for shopping with us at Safeway, to Mrs. McWilliams for helping with popcorn and for preparing our salad bar, to Mrs. Cullen for helping set up for movie night and for helping students with their salads and to Mr. McFarlane for volunteering to spend his evening with us for Movie Night!! I could NOT have made it through the day without you! You are such an essential part of our Team!
