New Year's Resolutions

Team 24 families,

Since the first day back after the break, our writing project has been New Year's resolutions. We used the following poem as a springboard:

We read the poem many times over three days and discussed as a class the meaning of different words and the imagery of the poem.

Drawing picture of a mountain I modelled my own New Year's resolutions, writing the resolution itself atop the mountain with my plan of actions up the sides. As we discussed, you need a plan of action in order to "climb the mountain" and achieve your resolution.

After modelling 2 of my own goals, we brainstormed possible goals they might have. Students each selected one of their choosing. As a whole-class, we drew a mountain and created an action plan for a goal unselected by any students. Students applied this practice and drew and created their own mountain and action plan. Within their draft, we formed the following criteria: drafts needed to include a hook sentence, a description of 3-4 of their brainstormed plan of actions and a creative wrap-up sentence.

With drafts now finished, students are learning how to use Notability on the iPad to record an audio clip of them reading their draft. Then they will learn how to AirPlay their file from their iPad to my iPad. I will use their auto files to turn their writing into a class book in the app Book Creator. This book will be sent to the students iPads and will be available for them to read through iBooks!

They will also complete a graphic organizer for their New Year's Resolution and these will be displayed for the rest of the school on our bulletin board! Here's a sneak-peek of the graphic organizer:
Stay tuned for a picture of our completed bulletin board.
