Last Week of School

Team 24 Families,

I can't believe it, but we have just finished the final week of the 2013- 2014 school year.

Highlights from the week include:

Monday: Our Celebration of Learning- thank you to the families who were able to attend! It means so much to the students! Hope students enjoyed the memory books I made for them.

Tuesday: Our Baby Shower! We played various games, including a blind-taste test of some baby food. It was quite possibly the funniest thing we've done all year! A HUGE thank you to the families who spoiled baby and I!! It was so generous and thoughtful! I was unbelievably touched. THANK YOU!

Wednesday: We released our butterflies and tadpoles. Here are pictures of the critters before we released them and students observing the butterflies after we released them in the front garden. Sadly, I forgot to get pictures of us at the creek while releasing the tadpoles. A picture of a 6 and a half month pregnant woman standing on a drain pipe inches from the creek waving at the tadpoles would have made quite the picture! ;)

We also walked to the neighbouring 7-11 for slurpees! Ms. Burland's slurpee trick: I take 3 camping water jugs with us and fill them with slurpees for all of us. I am charged for refills and it costs me just $5.05. Much more affordable than purchasing each student a slurpee, which would cost $25+.

Thursday: Our last day of classes! Thank you again to families who spoiled me and the baby with sweet and thoughtful gifts!

THANK YOU to Team 24 families for a fabulous learning year! Your support and cooperation are invaluable! As heart-breaking as it is to not be back next year, I am excited for the new chapter and adventure that lays ahead! I promise to visit in September so everyone can see how big I have gotten before I pop. Of course, I will visit with the baby once it arrives :)

Have a safe, exciting and well-deserved summer holiday!

Lions and Tigers and Bear, oh my!

Ok so we don't have lions and tigers and bears, but we do have some pretty neat critters! Check out the past week in Team 24:

Group work- students worked in small groups to become "experts" of an animal group and presented their learning to the class; kudos to Table 5 for being able to work together cooperatively and independently:
TABLE 5

Better late than never- our tadpoles finally arrived and it was VERY exciting!

Learning about medicine bags with Mrs. Waters:

Shaw TV comes to visit: students did great pretending it was a normal math class while Shaw TV visited; FANTASTIC job; it the words of the students, "We are famous now!"

 Buddy work: Le Zoo puzzles

Today we moved most of our butterfly chrysalises into their new home, much more suitable for when they hatch as beautiful butterflies! We also created Eric Carle caterpillars using a small balloon to apply paint- pictures of the finished projects to come!

Nothing like a class dance party to end the last 5 minutes of the day! :)

Whew! What a week! It may be June, but there is no sign of slowing down in Team 24!!

Field Trip with our Pen Pals!

Team 24,

So I finally sent our field trip photos to my computer, after hoping for an easier route and failing- I am hoping this justifies me getting a new phone pretty soon ;)

So here they are! Candids from our amazing field trip adventure last Thursday:

We started the day at the Golf Dome to meet our pen pals for the FIRST time!

A game with our pen pals:

After playing mini-golf like hockey, students finished a 45 minute game in 15minutes. Needless to say, we had some downtime with our pen pals. Here we are colouring doodle sheets and working through puzzle booklets while enjoying a snack:

Next we headed to the Children's Nature Playground at the Assiniboine Park for lunch and to play with our pen pals:

Possibly the best candid of the day

Despite the heat and humid, we had a great time! Thanks to our pen pals from Salibury Morse Place in River East Transcona!!
