On the Walls

Team 24 Families,

Along with our Word Study lessons, we have had mini-lessons reviewing the sounds TH and CH and a lesson introducing Vowel Teams, which included a VERY catching sound that I sing frequently when doing guided reading with students. I am happy the grade 2s finally have experienced the song for themselves so that I seem a little less crazy to them when I break into song. The gist of the sound was that, "when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking!" So for the vowel team OA, we only hear/say the long O. This follows for vowel teams EA, AI and AY. Of course, this is English and it would be nothing without the words that break the rules, the oddball words! Students have been catching examples of these patterns, or rule breakers, in their daily reading and recording them on the posters.

Seems they are VERY particular about putting them neatly on the posters (no that wasn't me!)

Here is our New Year's Resolution bulletin board in the hallway. We have had quite a few comments from admirers!
