Good-bye Egypt

This past week has been exciting, but has sadly marked the end of our Ancient Egypt study. Our final souvenirs in our suitcases included a flip-book we created about three famous pharaohs and the lyrics to an original song.
Students were very excited to bring their suitcases home!

Friday morning, I travel with Mrs. Shabaga, Mrs. Waters and Mr. Benjaminson to the board office to meet artist and songwriter Harmony Parent. Harmony is amazingly talented singer and self-taught guitar player and together we all created an original song about the process of mummification, entitled "Journey to the Underworld"! We recorded Harmony singing and playing the song using our laptops. I was SOO excited to head back to the classroom that afternoon to share our song with Team 24! I knew they would love it as much as I did!

I am trying to learn how to upload the audio to the blog- stay tuned!
Singing along!

Harmony will be visiting Team 24 for three one-hour session in May to explore songwriting within our Plant unit. I can't wait!

After playing "Journey to the Underworld" (many, many times!), we played Egyptian Jeopardy, a game I was able to make for the SMARTboard. Teams answered questions under the following topics: The 5 Ws, Egypt 101, Egyptian Life, Death & Burial and Gods. Questions covered information taught over the entire unit. It was a lot of fun and students easily shined, displaying they had a strong understanding of content explored over the past 2 and a half months. Students enjoyed a cool treat afterwards.

Although we all are sad to say good-bye to Egypt, I know our next theme-study: Life Cycles of Plants will be great fun as well!

It seems no one else got the memo, but Damien and I :) tee hee...

Please be sure your child is dresses appropriately and staying dry for the (hopefully) warming weather. Despite conversations, many students had difficulty staying clear of the water last week.
